10-34 Wisconsin, Inc. Timeline
After over a decade of questions from concerned
parents, horrible headlines, and confused families,
an organization is born to fulfill an educational void
in the Greater Milwaukee area.
1993: The 10-34 founders are made aware that the Greater Milwaukee areas lacks prevention information and resources and wonder what is being done to protect kids and educate adults.
1993 -2002: Questions and concerns from parents; local news stories about sexual harm to kids are relentless.
2002: Research and development begins.
2003: Research and development continues. Focus Group discussions continue. |
2004 Goals:

Goal: To incorporate and become a nonprofit
organization. Status: 10-34 became
a non-profit organization in February 2005.
- Goal: To implement a pilot program.
Status: Ran a successful pilot program
during summer 2004.
- Goal: To increase the number of and talent
pool for the Board of Directors. Status:
Strategically identified a list of people for
Board opportunity.
2005 Goals:
- Goal: Educate 533 students.
Status: Educated 900 families!
- Goal: To raise $10,000.
Status: Raised $15,250!
- Goal: Meet with and interview people for
possible Board service. Status: Met with
twenty-three people.
2006 Goals:
- Goal: Provide education to 1125 students
and 250 parents. Status: Educated 825
students.
- Goal: Hire a program manager and office
assistant, secure office space. Status: 10-
34’s office is incubated with the YWCA.
Fundraising goals were not met to hire
support staff, therefore falling short of
reaching all students.

- Goal: Reach fundraising goals. Status:
72% of goal was achieved.
- Goal: Increase the number of Board Directors.
Status: In 2/2006, new Directors joined the
10-34 Board.
- Goal: Make connections and partner with law
enforcement, health departments, schools,
youth-serving organizations, and other familyrelated
organizations. Status: Partnered
with: Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office,
Department of Corrections, and has
become an affiliate with the Milwaukee
County Health Department. Milwaukee
Public Schools has contracted 10-34 to teach
hundreds of young people, and several other
schools or organizations have requested our
prevention education services.
- Goal: Gain Department of Public Instruction
approval of the programs Standing Tall, Cyber
Council, and Home Base parent workshop for
Title I and Title IV, Safe & Drug Free funds.Status: Programs approved, February 2006.
- Goal: Work with the Nonprofit Management
Fund to seek funds for a consultant. Status: The Nonprofit Management Fund awarded a
grant that allowed 10-34 to hire a board
development consultant. Board development
completed October 2006.
- Goal: Hold Kick Off Fundraising Event.
Status: Introduction event will be held
3/1/07.
- Goal: Develop a new agency name and look.
Status: 10-34 Wisconsin, Inc. is the new
name. (Former name: Children's Safety
Services, Inc.)
- Goal: Increase the board participation up to 17
Directors. Status: Septembers board meeting
welcomed new Directors!
2007 Completed Goals:

Provided education to 1,300 students and 400 adults

Expanded the donors of 10-34 Wisconsin

Held an event to formally introduce 10-34 to the community on March 1, 2007

Completed our first audit, 990, and received training from Reilly, Penner and Benton for weekly, monthly, and annual accounting needs

Purchase computer equipment, software, and printer

Partnered with local agencies who have adopted the 10-34 vision and participate on the 10-34 Wisconsin Industry Professional Committee
Since operations began in June 2005, 10-34 has received over $250,000 in grants and program fees, and served 3,000 families.
