10-34 Wisconsin is a forward thinking, successful, three-year-old, nonprofit agency located in Milwaukee.  We exist to bring solid solutions to an old problem by challenging current practices and serious oversights.  Sexual harm of children and teens in its many forms is prevalent, secretive, devastating, and also preventable.

The chilling statistics and countless news stories concerning child abductions, Internet predators, and sexual abuse are impossible to ignore. The need to educate families is becoming more important every day and is what inspired the founding of 10-34 Wisconsin.

National and local statistics have shown that improved educational programming is necessary.  Throughout the country it is estimated that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 7 boys are sexually abused by age 18.  1 in 7 youth are sexually solicited online. In 1999, 58,200 youths were abducted by nonfamily members.  In Wisconsin in 2004, there were 5,618 substantiated sexual assaults; 70% of the victims were age 15 and younger.  As of November 2007, there are currently 962 missing children, and in 2006, law enforcement officials apprehended 120 people who traveled 50 miles or more for Internet related sex crime against youth.

In 2002, 10-34 Wisconsin conducted a feasibility study, and held focus group discussions to determine the need for an agency dedicated to helping kids be safe.   The results from parents, other adults, and our youth made it clear that they feel the threat of sexual violence is very real.

Focus group results found that:

88% of parents worry about their child being abducted.

69% worry about their child being sexually abused.

83% worry about their child being solicited on the Internet.

80% feel they have not done enough to educate themselves to protect their children.

Only 1% could name an agency that provides education.  (Police Departments)

While these numbers may shock you, there is one comforting statistic:

Over 98% of people that have participated in 10-34 educational programs state that 10-34 did an excellent job in educating and presenting valuable knowledge in a clear and understandable way.  100% of school administrators who have gone through our program said they would recommend all programs to others

10-34 believes that everyone is entitled to a happy, carefree childhood, with positive experiences and dreams of the future. We believe that every child is born with innocence, and that once that innocence is stolen away, there’s no getting it back. That is why the journey to end harm to youth must start now.
