While the 10-34 Wisconsin student and adult programs are a high priority, we are taking the initial steps to bring truth to our vision statement, which is to create a systemic change in quality and delivery of education for families that is highly visible, accessible, and widely available.
Childhood sexual abuse and exploitation in its many forms can be a difficult topic for many people to confront, but it is a problem both locally and across America that needs new, proactive, and creative solutions. Two major shortcomings in our society’s quest to prevent this type of abuse are the lack of unified curriculum, and a broad based distribution system. 10-34 Wisconsin has two major goals.
-To provide an immediate prevention educational resource to the community.
-To create a systemic change and build a national system of education.
Surrounding child sexual violence in its many forms we have:
-
public and private agencies working either on prevention needs, or direct services for victims.
-
many dedicated professionals who work endlessly to research the issues.
-
substantial information about the various sex offenders, and children who become victims.
-
countless curricula and programs have been developed over the past several decades. –We have mixed philosophies, messages, and methods.
-
improved reporting systems.
-
new laws.
-
spent billions on child sexual violence and exploitation issues.
The above represents much excellence, but most of the work is well known in the social services, medical and law enforcement communities. Families and caretakers who need the information the most do not have access to all that is available.
Our country is fortunate to have so many dedicated people who care deeply about protecting children. However, even with all of the effort and good intentions directed at this problem, we have not yet created a viable solution to reach all who desire and need education. The current, disjointed methods will do nothing more than continue the status quo resulting in further abuse and exploitation of children.
It is time to gather the experts, unify the research, and build a system of education. The 10-34 Wisconsin vision is to create this system that becomes the leading resource for our country. We know the issues. We have identified the gaps. We have listened to families. We know of the devastating consequences if we do nothing. Overcoming the barriers to prevent child sexual violence is long past due. It will take intelligence, leadership, resolve, and resources, but protecting the innocence of children will make our every effort worthwhile.
Sometimes it takes a fresh perspective to clearly understand the complexities of a problem and then formulate a comprehensive strategy to overcome it. By utilizing our current vital partnerships, and gaining new ones, 10-34 Wisconsin will build an effective system. The mission of 10-34 Wisconsin is of fundamental importance and combats a pressing need. We are confident, have high energy, and will create a solution of primary importance to both our children and society as a whole.
The 10-34 Wisconsin Board of Directors and staff are seeking support to fully staff and implement the many facets of our plan, we would graciously accept an invitation to speak with you or your group.
